Intentions Week 5

Intentions Week 5

This week has been challenging for me, after last week i had ran out of dyed fabric so this meant i had to spend a lot of time dying a mass amount of fabric for future samples. I feel like i didn't think about fabric prep in relation to time frames so this made me begin to run behind with finishing the first project and moving my focus on to the royal armories. It is a learning curve though as i now realise the importance of planning preparation to help work within the given project time. I know that is something i will have to work on to make sure i am able to do it efficiently when working in the creative industry as time is money. After this blip i began working on further samples basing them on my collages and drawings. I am enjoying working with hand embroidery and beading, combining it with machine processes as i think it helps it add a further depth to the sample.

Attending the weeks tutorial we talked about looking at drawings to get further details out of them which i completely agree with as previous samples just haven't had the same depth that the drawings do. I want to focus on getting more elements in to fabric through different processes and thinking about how i can use the materials i have to replicate it. We also discussed playing with scale and composition so i am going to begin playing around with that in samples.

We had another workshop with Karina Thompson this week, i learned more about how i can create structure with materials through seams and folds so i may explore that within my own work as it could work well with the more 3d pieces i have made previously.

I have also began drawing from the Leeds armoury photographs and working on a colour palette, i have decided to keeps the pinks and neutral tones from the last project as i had seen a battle photograph with the same colors in at the visit and i think that this will help to keep the projects linked. This has helped me begin adding colour in to my drawing so i can start to work on creating designs.

Next week i would like to be working on the armories project more than the previous one so i do not begin falling behind with my work.
