Locating week 2 (live brief)

This week was an important week for research for me. Now i have found what i am doing i  have been furthering my knowledge on polar climates and the research scientists are doing out there to aid my work.

I have discovered all sorts of reasons it is important to invest in polar research, one of the reasons is its vital to know how it is being affected by climate change one of the main threats to this climate and earth. Scientists have been researching in to ice cores to see how old layers of ice and if its depleting. They have also been watching wildlife to see how they are being affected by theses issues.

I have gathered various resources that will be helpful to assist drawings for example i have been watching frozen planet and screen capping scenes that show the depth of the polar climates to draw from. Visiting the national geographic website i have come across beautiful picture capturing the climate as well that i have drawn from. I have discovered museums (Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge) dedicated to polar discovery/research and people that jobs depends on these environments.

This week i ordered two books to aid my visual research as i am obviously unable to visit these environments myself. The books are by poet Nancy Campbell and entailing her surroundings while completing an artist residency at Upernavik Museum in Greenland. She describes the environment, people and wildlife living there through poetry and descriptive writing which has aided numerous drawings this week.

I am beginning to tell a story through my work and visualise my ideas aided by these resources. I have also thought about how i can design for the interior of a car. Looking into the ways Rolls Royce have personalised their cars for clients, i will create a collection that encourages the ways interiors of cars can become more creative and design focused.

After the Christmas break i am planning on dying fabrics for sampling, creating more designs and beginning samples.
