Week 1 (self initiated)

Leaving the previous project with a lot of ideas i still wanted to pursue i looked at how i could make a connection from my first project and second project. Brainstorming how i could do this i thought about what i had been fascinated about in the last project. I had  been interested in the landscape of these polar climates and the natural structures of it. I have also chosen to do another live brief in this project , Hand and Lock Embroidery Prize. The brief this year was ' fool the senses' considering the texture and feel of your embroidery, to create embellishments with a sumptuous surface  that intrigues and surprises.

I Began to think about what would be fitting for the brief specifications and decided that looking at ice and the structure of it would create very interesting outcomes.

Having my ideas set in stone i have begun to think of how i can replicate ice in unique ways through my samples. I have written words down that make me think of ice to trigger a thought process, some of these words being cold, slippery , hard, clear. Taking these words i have thought about how i can convey this in a fun way for samples to fool the senses as the brief has stated.

Looking in to clear liquids that take form i think silicone would be an interesting way to reproduce ice effects. I am going to buy silicone sealant this weekend and different beads to embellish with. Next week i will be playing with the silicone and seeing how i can manipulate it with my samples.

I have also begun sketchbook work and choosing colours to use amongst this project. My colours cross over with a lot of the  ones from last project as i think the dark tones and icy colours will work really well to convey my concept through samples. This week has been productive and i hope to continue the research next week to help sampling
